I am having a issue with my Rear Derailleur..

It appears that it is getting eaten by my chain.

Well the chain falls off the lower jockey/pulley wheel and then gets stuck in between the cage and the wheel. This has been happening for sometime.. because there is alot of wear on the lower cage... so much that I think it might eventually eat through soon.

Possibly bent derailleur hanger?

It shifts fine... does not skip.. I didn't even notice this till tonight when I was adjusting my FD.

What do you think... and how do I fix it..like tonight?

I know it's ghetto, but grab the biggest pair of plyers you got and squeeze the ends of the derailleur cage together. Might be just enought to get you through tomorrow. Sounds like something else is wrong and/or out of alignment. Hope it helps. If not, duct tape and zip ties will fix it.

I tried that... I thought the bottom bolt was loose so I tightened the shit out of and and pinched it together but there is still enough of a gap for the chain to fall off.

Looks like you need new jockey pulleys.

That is kind of what I am thinking... but it's not an old pully... maybe a 3-4 months old. It also happens in the top (the smallest on the cog) three gears. If there was not so much damage all ready I would not worry to much about it and just not use my tallest three gears... but now that I am a 2x9 I kinda need them.

Owells.. off to the shop tomorrow

I have a medium cage SRAM X-9 that's used but works fine. $15 if you want it.

Ok, I was mainly thinking if you wanted to ride tomorrow morning, I could meet you at ATT early so you can put it on. It's just my backup derailleur in case I need something last minute, like you right now.

The only issue if I got shimano shifters... I don't think they are compatible..:(

I actually think it might be a derailleur hanger issue...

Easy fix: get a single speed. I never have these issues. :flame:

I had endless chain issues until I started insisting on Sram chains.

Hard to tell from the pic but if your D hanger is bent then the derailler would be at an odd angle. That could cause the chain to want to come off the pulley especially if the pulley teeth are worn down. You can buy replacement pulleys but probably for more than the $15 Brett's asking for his D.

You'd still want to replace the hanger too.
