As some know I'm in the middle of building up a new bike.

160mm fork on a steel hardtail. There are no cheap parts on this build, so it's slowly coming together and I'm no at the Wheel ordering time.

There are 3 high end hubs that are essentially the same price that I'm debating over and looking for the hives thoughts. Due to availability they would all be Black..

Chris King (King is Bling) decent engagement (I'm used to 24 or 36 point), will last longer than I can ride this bike. (Wanted GOLD) Combined weight 434 (Centerlock only)

I9 Hydra insane engagement, have seen some concern over bearing quality, but I haven't changed bearing in the Novatec hubs I've been running for the past 7 years on Woodie. Combined weight 464grams (6 Bolt)

Onyx Versper instant engagement, totally silent, less drag, some issues when these were newly released. Combined weight 556 grams (6 bolt)

And Heck, let's throw in thoughts on 6 bolt vs Centerlock? The King is only in Centerlock, the other to can have either.

The will get laced up to some China Carbon rims (I've had no complaints since I've had some on Woodie) At $163 per rim, I can buy 3 for the price of one We Are One rim.

Personally I detest centerlock for no reason except it limits your replacement rotor options. And always seemed to be more expensive. Centerlock is a solution in search of a problem.

I have no personal experience with the other two but have heard the Onyx vesper needs special grease when servicing it.

For a recent wheelset I had built I went with DT Swiss 350. Light, durable, and tool-free disassembly. Hard to beat that.

Never had CK's, so can't comment except they've been around for a good amount of time. evdog makes a valid point, so might as well pass.

And unless you're thrilled about the silence of the Vespers, the extra grams, extra cost and special schmutz would probably rule them out too.

I have a set of I9 1/1's on one build and they've been just fine. Have I9 Hydra's on the other bike (lighter build). Can't really say I notice the better engagement, and if not for the weenie build on that wheelset, I'd probably rethink and opt for the 1/1 for the price difference and very small weight penalty. (Hydra's win the cool contest though.....).

No one ever seems to speak badly about DT Swiss, so that's a valid option.

And while I've experimented with a few others since I had Hadley's, I wouldn't hesitate to pick up another set. They were great. And the best service and fastest turnaround I've experienced with nearly any product (based nearby in LA too). Although, they also use special schmutz. But you can get them in GOLD!! http://www.balleracing.com/hadley-148mm-x-12mm-boost-rear-hubs/gold-boost-148mm-x-12mm (I've got their tools, an extra set of seals and that good schmutz. You can have for free if you go that direction).

I love quiet hub, it doesn't have to be completely silent.

I also vote for DT even though its not on your list. :)

I have CK hubs on a couple of bikes. Would not buy them again. I wanted to update my cassette to 12 speed back when sram was the only option. This required a replacement hub body for a CK hub, and it was over $300. I went Shimano 11 speed instead because I wasn't about to plonk down that kind of dough. Plus every repair requires a special custom CK only tool that costs $$$$. Having CK hubs has made me a DT guy.

That was just me giving a preview of the sound my new hubs make.

The Hadley was interesting, but didn't seem easily available with an XD driver for Sram 12 speed. While I really wanted the Kings, they do have a few challenges and they weren't readily available in the color I wanted.

Hopefully only a few more weeks till they arrive.
