Feet are getting itchy.

Been at home for too long.

Mapping my spring migration route and would like some advice from the road warriors out there.

Need to be in Santa Fe NM last part of May and then who knows from there.

Looking at the AAA trip gas cost calculator, looks like the quicker I exit Cal. the less I will pay. So Yuma it is!

Looking at the 8/10 to Las Cruces then the 25 to SF but I’m not a big fan of big asphalt so alternate might be up to Show Low AZ from Phoenix. Anyone been on that route lately. Road looks nice and twisty but I have no idea about the Show Low area.

The northern route is more scenic but you have to get past ugly Phoenix, whereas the southern straight across route is faster. Are you planning to ride along the way? If you do find yourself going the Las Cruces way, don’t miss getting a meal at the Adobe Deli near (but not in) Deming. Guarantee you will like it.

Don’t know if you have to go to Las Cruces before going north so this might not be useful. Going across on 10 you have the bird sanctuary by Wilcox. If it’s warm go stay in the forest south of Chiricahau national Monument or check out Indian bread rocks south of Bowie for camping. Then go north on the 191 you pass by Morenci one of the largest copper mines around pretty interesting. You lose signal north of there, but you can stay in the forest along that way and it’s a beautiful drive. Going to Show Low I would go up 60 from Globe it’s an amazing drive if you’re just cruising.

Thanks guys! Keep it coming. This is exactly the info I’m looking for!

Tfitz,
I have been planning on completing the 191 border-to-border challenge. May have to take this opportunity to knock off the AZ portion. Then will just need to do AZ/Utah border to the 70 and the 50 or so miles from MT HWY 2 to Canaydia.
Gorgeous route tho some may think it needs more guard rails! I remember going over a 9000+ foot pass somewhere in NE Utah leaning out the drivers side window to see the highway as I came over the top (on an asphalt road)!
Also can confirm large sections have NO cell coverage!

Outside Cody, WY 2021. Discovered later this is where they RELEASE problem grizzlies taken out of Yellowstone NP! Yes I was strapped and no I didn’t cook anything! Place just felt bearish

Also outside Cody, but in a different direction. So quiet I heard him snort in surprise when he caught sight of me.

Missouri River breaks sunset. This is where I met a guy who used to guide elk hunts near the first photo. Told me about his run ins with griz. Imagine Avidtest 20 years older in white straw cowboy hat and Lee jeans and 50 years in the saddle (horse). Guy’s face told a story! Made me wish I was better at portraits. As for cell coverage, I regained signal once I was 2 blocks INSIDE Malta city limits!

Beautiful photos! I’ve also been known to snort in surprise when I catch sight of you. And it’s awesome to see a rare photo of the three-legged stool in the wild.
