I have not had a lot of luck with blocking shortcuts with debris. Rocks and logs can easily be removed.

What I have had better luck with was digging holes. Hard to fill them in when you've thrown the dirt away. Dig them deep enough and far enough apart they are hard to ride over. The pic is a section of old trail I re-routed and closed down. I covered it with brush but people kept tossing the brush aside and riding the old trail. I even pounded stakes in and put up signs saying "trail closed, use re-route." Those signs got torn out too. After I cut these holes and put the brush back, no one has touched the old line since.

Might be a good option where people were going wide.

^^^ extreme but effective, and warranted to close down an entire section of trail.
But in the context of my example, the cure would be worse than the disease. The burying of big rocks is the best answer here.* You win though for stubbornness and dogged determination. Keep it up as long as you can!

shit, i'd add some 16" spikes and hot tar in them holes and let fate take its course!
seriously though, hopefully no one breaks a leg in one of those holes and then tries to sue the shit outta someone. i mean, it is CaLiFOrnIa.....

Here’s the singletrack with the rocks that Matt has replaced a number of times, and me too. I gave up long ago on that one since there’s an opening any bike, no matter how fat the tires, can roll through. But apparently not enough for someone so they removed rocks to make a go-around to the left — you can see the tracks. I put the rocks back yesterday. Probably be gone this weekend.

Wow, I have no clue where those rocks are at and I pride myself on knowing every trail out there.....

One of my favorite singletrack connectors on the way back. Always ridden uphill, because there are better downhills that get you here. And I never take the fire road back up unless someone’s hurt or bonking. Which I guess is a form of hurt.

ohhhhhhh yeah I know that spot, we generally ride up the fireroad instead of that trail, maybe I will start taking it again.

I wonder how much damage the place is taking right now with this downpour.

I got out for a little ride today.
Trails are still pretty wet. I ran
into a Carlsbad Trail guy, he said
they are getting ready to do some trail work.

They contracted HRS and SDMBA to
do the work. That should be interesting.
Sounds like they’ll be starting pretty soon.

Dropping off heavy equipment yet? Dozer should be able to push through the mud without an issue

He was scouting out the fire roads.
Just making sure that the heavy
equipment can make it through fish and game land.

FYI — It was posted today on FB that more than one ticket was given by DFW in the vicinity of the pad. About 5:45 to 6:30PM. DFW entered by church. The officer was described as new here and on a mission to write tickets. A photo of the notice to appear was included, and someone else corroborated that there were others.

 yall need to move to a free state. i have yet to hear of anyone getting a ticket in Idaho for riding a bike unless its on someone's private land which would ultimately be for trespassing. and honestly, as long as you ask first, most people are cool about riding, hunting and enjoying on their property.

Crazy that this new guy is out in the evenings.

Since the uptick in patrols 8ish years ago I have never seen a ranger out there midweek past 4pm.

Posted on FB two hours ago:

“Offroad enforcement is out today. Looks like a good group if them will be patrolling... Sheriffs and rangers. They were setting up at the bottom of the fire road that ends at the high school parking lot.“
