I didn't mean to depict DHers as all being that way, but this individual was obviously working for greater downhill speed. Well, I ran into him today and blew my top as he was hacking down yet another stand of manzanita. I didn't get anywhere with him since I came on so strong, and he immediately became defensive, but now I know who it is. I tried to explain to him why it was not good, but he wasn't going to listen. I wanted to take his picture, but I forgot my phone. I do know his name though. Should I post it here in case someone knows him and could talk some sense into him? It may be too late since the damage is done, but he should at least cut down the deadly spears he left sticking up before somebody falls into them and gets killed. And hide all the cuttings so the rangers, birdwatchers and tree huggers don't see them!

This trail damage is some repugnant shit. Those of us that ride this trail are going to have to look at this for years. I can't believe someone would chop up a trail like this. By far the worst trail hack job ever.

does this sound like another CC/heavy pedal/toolio/campbell/lucy drama thread to anyone but me?

although I doubt he'd go so far as to hack brush just to start a troll thread, anyone who comes in with under 10 posts with drama-riffic content that rides that area is immediately suspect to me. Then again I probably just need to get a life and ride more :D

Anyway, I'd suspect strava more than anything - maybe someone who is trying to beat goodflow but having trouble on the blind corners?

Sorry to pick on this guy, but he had a funny post over at sdmba http://sdmba.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=1992 with some fudged strava times

"Picked up some trash, laid out some stones to stop trail erosion, and had good legs. Goodflow, I'm coming after more of your KOMs, brother. ;)"
http://app.strava.com/activities/31390563

"Horses and blind corners don't mix."
http://app.strava.com/activities/31764637

Yeah that settles it, I really do need to ride more and read the forums less...

great stuff scott!

if i am reading this properly, he's also one of the guys that has been, and still is (?), trespassing on the military area that has gotten them all up in arms to the point of actively enforcing barriers.

his map, my labels

military map- R1 is largely out of bounds. although not nearly as bad as upper spring that started the excitement.

for me, people can ride where they want, as long as it doesn't jeopardize other peoples privileges. if he wants to ride R1, good for him, hope he doesn't get caught. but posting an illegal trail on military property on strava. not smart, not cool. and hey, if i can do this stuff, the military can easily see what's going on by just watching their computer screens.

Yesterday he was Big Daddy on Strava. Today its Ignatious Riley. ?? Here's what he's been saying.

Big Daddy
I heard there were horses on the trails today and it freaked me out. With my luck, I'd come blasting around a blind corner and kill a horse. That would get picked up by the local news, then CNN, and Strava and I would be sued by the horses wife and ponies(children).

Big Daddy
..... I was doing some impromptu landscaping with the ipod blasting. You scared the hell out of me when you came around the corner. Sorry if I messed up your run. I loath blind corners. A lot of the trails out there have become overgrown.
Either too high so you can't see. Or, the brush on the sides of the trails creeps inward to get more sun. And riders just keep moving away and giving up thew original trail to the growth. It causes some pretty bad off camber erosion.
I'm a man on a mission. ;)

Some background: From the thread "Why is it illegal to ride a bicycle on the dirt in San Deigo county?"

Cool, what part of Texas? I Lived there for a while. We may have crossed paths.

The ATX.

Oh Cool. There's a guy named Chris Campbell, I think that he goes by Heavy Pedal, and Campbell (multiple names for some reason) on this board. I think he used to race in that area.

WAIT A MINUTE! I asked Lucy a question, and Toolio answered. Does this mean that Chris campbell has 5 different user names on this board??
Heavy Pedal, Toolio, Lucy, 2Bells, AND Campbell???

C'mon man. Don't make a bunch of different user names just to mess with people. That's what got you kicked off the bike mojo boards in Texas - Remember??? I was there.

I have to quote His Highness here since he said it best: ....then you factor in all the asshat XC spandex wearing cockfairys on hardtails training for some local race with no regard for anything but themselves, nearly running people over....

That would apply to this piece of work. Other trail users don't see a misguided, selfish individual - they see mountain bikers. Thanks buttwad. And nobody cares about your Strava time.

So, to stop rambling and get to the point, it was Chris Campbell who I found cutting the Sumac bushes down. He can deny it all he wants, but there were at least 3 witnesses. I heard he goes by "big daddy" on Strava. Big Ego might be a better fit. If I'm wrong about that, it's because he changed his name again. If I'm right, that will be changed as soon as he sees this post. He had mentioned on Strava that he had done the brush cutting then removed the posts after Rock&Roll confronted him. He also blasted another Strava rider who had talked to him when he was cutting. I think he could use 100 hours of community service planting trees or just cleaning up his mess. He claimed to have shored up the muddy upper trail with rocks right after the rain, but what was he doing riding it in the mud right after a rain in the first place? I'm done ranting. Someone else want to take over? Here's a picture of his unfinished work where I saw him. Other growths weren't so lucky.

Judging by your last post, that is definitely a trail your not going to find me on a DH bike with. However I have never rode this trail before, but one shouldn't modify an existing trail to become faster. Modifying a trail to create a longer line of sight or clearing rocks for an easier line is only exposing the inefficiencies in your riding ability and though I do not know this person I feel sorry for them. We get on a bike to challenge our abilities and test their limits and ultimately push them further. /Rant
