Greetings,

As the topic title states, I'm new to the forum but not to mountain biking. I thought I'd introduce myself here on DT.com.

I've been riding for years but have been very active in off-road motorsports more so. I recently had a off-road related injury (tripped over an ice cooler in the off hours  ) and took out my right knee...LCL, ACL, PCL and both top and bottom of the patella. Surgery was 3 months ago and it has been a long recovery as I had to have some cadaver parts put in. In the meantime, I managed to injure the left knee and had some minor ortho work done over there.

Currently using a walker but soon back to crutches. Doc said it would be okay for me to get back on the saddle in the future but not back in the off-road car so I'll steam forward on mountain biking, a goal to look forward to.

Bike is currently getting some updates and upgrades at Incycle in Chino. I'm looking forward to putting it by my fireplace to always keep my mind on the goal.

Anyway, the purpose of the thread was to introduce myself and curious to see if anyone else uses a action brace while cycling. Doc said the brace is a MUST from now on while performing any sport. I have CTI brace now and it is very nice but see how it will confine me while in use. What is your experience and glad to meet you folks.

Bill

Don Joy brace all the way. Their local too. So after you get fitted, you can cruise to their factory and get a good deal. They guarantee you won't re-injure your knee while wearing their brace, or they pay for your next surgery. . . .

Welcome to the site Bill. I believe your from up north somewhere arent you? DT is mostly SD folk with a few LA/OC guys mixed in. theres another MTB site that has the uptight crowd from up there  its www.socaltrailriders.org just an fyi.

Atleast now you have more time to hang out with the drinking team, that racing stuff usually gets in the way.

Knee surgery is what got me into mountainbiking. I had a mountain bike for tooling around and after the surgery the physical therapy peeps said I should get a stationary bike to work on knee strength. I mentioned my bike and they said no way needs to be low impact, so met them in the middle and bought my first full suspension ride. Many years and several bikes later the knee feels great and I love to get out and ride.

More healing vibes and welcome aboard!!!

So is off roading really out of the question? or do you just have to get a restraining order on coolers

Welcome WildBill! This is a great site to belong to - all down-to-earth bikers. I am suppose to wear a knee brace as well when biking but have yet to bring myself to put it on - I tore my ACL about 3 years ago - courtesy of a brand new bike paired with a nasty rut at Calavera (along with a broken leg). Had that repaired using my hamstring - then about a year later - I tore that nicely repaired ACL again - "shredded it" according to the doc. I have not had it repaired but I am now regretting it as my knee has started to give out on me - most recently at LaCosta while riding down Vista Del Mar. My hubby gently reminded me that I need to wear that knee brace which is currently hanging on a hook in the garage... I'll let ya know how it goes if I can bring myself to put it on.....

and again...Welcome!

:hello:

Thanks for the welcome everyone.

I'll be checking into the brace mentioned. Thanks for the tip. My CTI is about a couple weeks old and is to small...second time they have made it small.

Dirty Boo~I let the first injury of mine stew for almost 11 months and it did nothing but make things worse. I don't know where you live but Kerlan-Jobe offers a "painless" ACL repair. That is where I get all my work done but I'm sure you know everything is about the PT.
