Dirt Treaders...here is a Tread Report (not Ride Report) for the San Juan Trail.

The alarm set off at 5:30 and the coffee soon followed. Was feeling okay from the Sam Adams and the Firehouse the night before. Packed up the rigged and was off to Rich's house by 6:00. Met up with 5 others and was at the San Juan trailhead by 7:15. The coastal fog had crept its way inland so it was a nice cool morning.

Started the 7 mile ride up slow and steady in the fog. The goaters where out in front and there was a couple of newbies sucking wind in the back. The fog kept it cool for most of the way up. Reached Cocktail Rock in two hours feeling good and took a rest. Four of us decided to do the 6 mile Old San Juan Trail loop. Was feeling pretty good at the start as there was some great ripping technical downhill mixed with rolling singletrack through some oaks. However, the last 1.5 mile was very technical climbing, exposed in the sun and I wasn't feeling so good by now. Walked it back to Cocktail Rock and rested to gain composure for the 7 mile blast to the truck and the cold IPA.

After about 10 minutes of rest I took off and ripped the top section. Loving it! Got the short climb out of the way and was flowing through the upper half. Loving it more! Then just as I was really getting in the groove...pinch flat...NO! But no big deal...a little trail side repair and wait for the last guy in our group. Got everything fixed and met a Laguna Rad named Brad. He hung out while I fixed the flat and then I chased him down the trail. Dude was fast, but definitely challenged me to go faster. Almost missed a pretty critical turn and was looking at a nice 50' fall, but pulled it out at the last second. Ripped it back to the truck with legs cramps, out of water, 20 miles in the bag by noon and cold beer at the truck. What a Saturday morning!

The sdmoondogg says Cheers-

p.s. the pcitures are in reverse order from how I uploaded them...Ldood what's up with that? I am too lazy to change..a cold Liberty Ale awaits.

Nice TR. It's been 12 years since I rode SJT. We should get an SD/OC/LA treaders SJT ride going!

Orange County. 15 minutes east on Ortega Hwy. Check out Mountain Bike Bill for all directions and maps.

I don't suppose you know your total elevation gain for that ride do you?
Like I said before, its been a long time since I've ridden there and what I recall the most about it was the climb along an edge with a long drop that lasted for several miles...yes...several miles, and legs feeling very weak for a couple days.
