What Italo is trying to say is:
They destroyed Iron Mountain...
What can we do to insure that they don't destroy/sanitize any other local trail network?

I know that many hikers and trail runners are pissed as well!

Yea, but you do get some people off their butt and into action!

That is called advocacy in my book. I have a different outlook on it too. I don't believe effective advocacy can be achieved if you try and make everyone happy. Bottom line is someone is going to be pissed off in the end. I've pissed off some but wheels have turned too, so it is worth it.

That being said. I saw two advocacy groups at an event this weekend. One was smack-dab in the middle of the event, has tens of thousands of members and you couldn't walk through without seeing them (they were approaching everyone who strolled by with at very least, a greeting). The other was in the furthest corner and without looking for them, you might not even have known they were there. Sort of made me shake my head a bit.

Highness - You stated in your letter to the Poway official that You are NOT a member of SDMBA, yet you are wanting to put this on SDMBA?

Here's my question - What the hell did MTB LOCOS do about this?
Why didn't MTB Lococ know this was going on?
What does MTBLOCO have to say about this?
You mean to tell me thta MTB LOCOS didn't know anything about this?
What the hell man!?!?!?
You openly express that you are not part of SDMBA, but you want it to take care of this?

How about the advocacy organization that you are apart of? I want to know why
MTB Locos didn't do anything about this!
Personally I am appalled that your group, while not knowing this was happening, did nothing to stop this destruction.
shame on MTB LOCOS!

YEA - THAT DOESN'T MAKE MUCH SENSE NOW DOES IT?
Stop throwing the hard working VOLUNTEERS - which you have decided to not be a part of - or support through membership under this bus.

Good Grief! Leave Italo alone! You're lucky he even performs for you bastards!

Simple questions, deserves simple answers...Now someone answer the question he asked, its not that difficult.

When did the Majority(not necessarily SDMBA or MTB Locos) know about this?

Probably never. Meaning no majority was told, no group was consulted. It was simply done because one, two maybe 3 people decided it was the right thing to do.

What else is this? Absolute effing bullscat.

There is no majority respect from the land managers to the riders, to the advocacy groups or to the community as a whole.

How do you change this?
1. People need to participate in SOMETHING (this is far more than "pay your 25.00 and say you are a member of a group)
2. Somewhere, someone needs to take a stand and call bullshit on the lack of respect.

Personally, I am sitting around waiting for the "plan" to be released after the public input meetings at MTRP. I want to see what the contractors and managing officials have to say about the public input they received. If it is positive, then we move on. If it is unfair and negative (which, considering the equestrian center that hasn't broke ground is already 70k over budget) then, honestly, time to start calling people out across the board.

Love it or leave it.
Love it, get involved. It isn't "someone else's problem" It is our (as a community) problem.

Otherwise, get a road bike and ride that on the weekends.
wait...
what...
:hello:

Good luck to your questions Italo.

By that logic, you are 1/1133 responsible because you are part of that collective.

Realistically, somebody rode there over the last few months and probably saw what was going on on any ONE given day. Since Iron Mountain is not normally a "everyday" ride like so many of our other locations, the scope of the work was never realized until it was too late. Somebody DID realized what was going on and DID take it upon themselves to head off further damage. But that person was not initially a mountain biker. It was here --> http://www.yelp.com/biz/iron-mountain-poway Maybe there were others earlier, maybe not. I believe a few here were directly involved, later, as well. So it was addressed. Does the actual day, hour, minute, and second really matter? Knowledge does not change initiative. The city will not be easily swayed by a few people, no matter how passionate.

The only people that can be held accountable are the folks at Poway City Hall. They made the decision. They implemented and followed through with the plan. THEY DID THIS. Nobody else. Why is it when something goes wrong, we want to know the answers to questions we should already know the answers to?

The end result? A large email barrage got it stopped. And most of it (sounds like) was not from riders, but a COMMUNITY. People acted without the help of an advocacy group. That is the mentality that gets things done. Personal action. Not witch hunting for a secret agenda or missed signs.

So what it the answer you seek going to change?

Barcy, I agree with you on this 110%.
If there is information like this instance, known by individuals or entities who are members or friends or aqauintances of others on such a close-knit and larger community like here at Dirt Treaders, I feel it is not right or justified to try and keep a lid on it if that is whats been happening, not that I'm saying thats whats been going on, but, someone knows someone who knows someone who has seen this. Is there really that large of a degree of seperation within the San Diego Mt Bikng community that it wouldnt have gotten around to someone on here before today? I can only think of negative reasons why it hasnt surfaced here before this.
Dirt Treaders does not censor subjects, individuals, terms, phrases, speech. There are only 2 words censored here, with just reason.
Public knowledge is not censored here. I do not and will not accept that in this instance it would be justified.
This site was created for a few reasons by a man that had great insight. One of the reasons (not solely) Dirt Treaders was created was because of censorship.
What does it say on the front of our jersies?

  • Information
  • Community
  • Group Rides

Looks like the first word is Information, nowhere do I see censorship listed on our jersies.
Im probably not going to make eveyone holiday card list for this, but thats the way I feel, thats part of the philosophy here and thats what I hope our members understand, freedom of speech and to post (to a certain degree of course, lets not be ridiculous) community, mt bike, trail, advocacy etc. information.

God willing, i plan on attending the next poway city meeting so I can stand in front of all the board members and say exactly that ..."this is absolute CACA DE TORO, and as a land user, demand an explanation and rectification".

who else wants to be there and say their piece about this issue?
or will I be all alone like Steve was last night...

sorry Aqua, had I known about the meeting, I would have been there with you.

I'm sitting here in the Netherlands shaking my head.

You cannot rewrite history, you can only influence the future. The work has stopped partly because SDMBA asked that it stop. While SDMBA became aware some minor trail work lower down that "would not alter the nature of the trail" was to be performed, SDMBA had no clue the work being done would yield what the situation is today.

Mountain bikers as a whole should attend the city meeting and air their concerns. SDMBA has already intefaced directly with the land manager. SDMBA's voice has been heard now it's your turn (the collective you that is). The message needs to come from individuals not just an advocacy group.

Good luck. I need to go varnish my wooden shoes now.

This is how I seem to feel every time these things come about, as do others(I assume), which is why many times things just get dropped. In the end, it's easier just to poach.
