Here’s the new flexstay bike I saw. Actually really nice if you are willing to accept flexstays. But what, no Lefty? The SL e-MTB war is heating up. |

^^^ Well that was an entertaining read. It’s fun what lengths someone will go to for an individualistic ride, and punctuate that with an elitist attitude and preemptive shit-talking. I can appreciate the work that went into building it and hope it elicits plenty of “Cool bike!” remarks. I’ll give it one. Good quote: “Vintage bikes are neat to look at but I don't enjoy riding them.” Same here. I assume Mike C wrote this as humor with tongue firmly in cheek. It’s hard to know sometimes. Thanks Evan! |

I'm going to say there was not much humor intended there, except where he was making fun of haters a bit. MC is a known curmudgeon, and very knowledgeable but also very opinionated and particular about bikes and bike setup being a professional wheel builder. He was one of the founders of the Great divide MTB race and bikepack racing in general, and does a lot of adventure riding that most MTBers wouldn't consider fun (fatbike-packrafting, snow riding, etc) which also require very specific setups. His main blog is well worth spending some time reading. In particular try to find trip reports from riding the Alaska coast. https://lacemine29.blogspot.com/ |

^^^ Ahh…there is some gold to be mined in his blogs, thanks Evan. Some remind me of your TR’s, which is a good thing. The Grand Canyon video in the “Nano” blog has some gorgeous light and landscape, which is of course why one goes there. I feel lucky to have been down it once — let alone ten trips. And speaking of flexstays, that Meriweather Miser is a beautiful bike, and I’d love to own one, although somewhere way in the back of my mind I might still be suspicious of all that flexing… |
