Most of us know from experience what trails to avoid after a rain if you don’t want the clown shoes, but I was wondering how to communicate that to someone without having to describe all the different trails, especially since I don’t know the Strava names (still a cranky holdout on that) and don’t want to spend time marking up a map. Here’s a soil type map filtered for clay type soils. It corresponds really well with most of the wheel-sucking adobe crap. Everywhere else is just plain mud!

Was out yesterday and rode all the legal stuff around the “lake” with no issues. Also took the spillway road down to the High School to check out the access to the S 40. Other than the stream crossing near the bottom of the pavement, I was able to stay dry. Got into the S 40 without issue as well.
Although it’s not muddy now, any new rain will make it messy pretty quickly.

Interesting that the forbidden zone is best post rain.

This map lines up with my personal experience. Thanks

Was just out to the S 40 checking on some “water bars” I put in.

Trails are surprisingly rideable even down between the street and the garden.

I came back here to ask about this. Between being out of town and illness within the family I have not had much saddle time over the last month and am really itching to get out this week, maybe even brave a rain ride. I know that around the lake - my normal entry point - will be a mess for a long time after all this rain as that dirt gets really sticky and deep.

I was thinking about actually driving to the trail head at collage and canon and riding into the back 40 from there. Probably just ascend the fireroad to avoid spinning out on the single track by the farms.

I do wish there was some better signage or such at Skyhaven and tamarac to inform the clueless to stay off the sticky mud when we have this much rain.... I just know when it dries out and I head out there the fireroad will be filled with hard-dried footprints and tire tracks.....
