Post subject:  More Carlsbad news

Here's a news story that popped up which reports on how law enforcement is stepping up the handing out of fines at Carlsbad. I think most of us already knew this was happening, but there are a couple of things that stood out to me.

- There are videos showing MTBers ripping out posted signs. This obviously looks really bad... I'm not saying anybody here is doing that, but if you are, keep in mind that they have posted hidden cameras.
- Following the above... if they posted hidden cameras to watch their signs, I'm guessing they've posted cameras on popular trails. It would probably be a very bad idea to try to destroy/remove these cameras.
- They do mention other sources of damage such as unleashed dogs, horses, motorcycles, etc., but the news story is clearly focused on mountain bikers
- They summarized the SDMBA response as essentially "we were here first"... from an objective point of view, this sounds a bit childish IMO. Probably better to emphasize that there are plenty of examples of other places (such as Black Mountain) where mountain bikers worked collaboratively with the city to design and create fun trails which respect the environment. If we're going to be riding the trails anyway, it seems an obvious win-win to work together to build a trail system. Besides, it's the mountain bikers who are doing all the work anyway.

Dude...you’re late to the party! Check out the latest under Advocacy, which is where I would move this if I were feeling like a moderator. Not everyone knows, but there is a “view new posts” button at the top when you open DT. Works great. Thank you.
