Has anybody ridden Sta. Anita trails in LA? There's an invite to ride this trail and I will gladly say "Hell No!" ...

I've ridden it with my cousin and his friend...it was about 15 miles of downhill from redbox to JPL...but make sure you go with someone who knows the trials or you can easily get lost, especially after the fires they had years ago... very fun ride...but if you make a big bad mistake, it's a long ways down and probably get a $20,000+ helicopter airlift out of it... I really enjoyed it (and I bailed 4 different times and had to help lift my friend and his bike off a ledge when he made a mistake)...epic ride though, just know your limits...make sure you shuttle from JPL to Red Box...

That trail looks rad. I'd be down if I wasn't on a ride hiatus.

Looks pretty narrow, but I wonder if it's the camera angle. Seems like a fun ride. I think us DT'rs are way more polite.... Didn't hear that guy throw a ' what's up' to anyone. Just sayin...

Is this the middle part of Redbox to Schwitzer to JPL route?

Sta Anita I think starts at 6:10 mark. Ran out of battery shortly there after. Quality and edit sucked. These were from the early days on black and white cctv POV camera days.

I can't think of any other trails that would take you down to JPL from Redbox.

Just remember it is LA. If you are going to be doing any climbing, make sure you only attempt riding up there in the November through February time period. Otherwise it's like smoking a pack-a-day while trying to climb. I f*n hate LA smog.

Did that one I think in the early 90s, most memorable part was flying around a corner where I was up against a rock wall and a hiker coming the other way, went OTB in the notch. Only thing that caught me was some freshly constructed erosion control chicken wire, got lucky acted like netting. Fun trail, had some friends in San Marino we'd just cruise back there after shuttle.

EDIT: Just thinking about the direction, took my spill on the Sam Merrill similar looking exposures etc.

That looks like the Gabrielino Trail, it connects Redbox to Switzers to JPL. It's an awesome ride. The trail is still in bad conditions from the fire a few years ago and the following rains. Mt. Lowe as well as Sturdevant Trail (from the top of Mt. Wilson) are open, and are fun as hell! If anybody ever wants to ride there, let me know. Experienced riders only, not for beginners!!! You don't have to be fast, you just need to know how to ride.

Ozzer, it looks like part of the Gabrielino trail that Project D speaks of..That trail is part of other trails that take you from Red Box to JPL...I've done it once with someone who knew (or at least thought he did) the trail....after the fires a few years back, it wiped out lots of the natural "markers"...My guide went with his brother late last year and got lost...had to spend the night out there cuddling with his bro to keep warm...search and rescue found them early the next morning....He is not ever gonna live it down in our family...They are now referred to as Brokeback Mountain Bikers in our family....http://www.altadenablog.com/2011/09/alt ... scue-.html
