This is a stock photo of a California striped racer, just like the one that crossed the trail in front of me today. They’re wriggly f*ckers and fast. No time to take a photo.

I've come across a few of those along the way too and they were always long gone by the time I pulled out my phone. They don't like to pose for pictures LOL. |

Walking stick. I may have screamed a little when I opened the cabinet to throw something away and was greeted by this beast! About 6” long. First bug I’ve ever seen that had me wondering which part to hit with the shoe! Don’t worry, I took it outside. Attachment:

Foggy Lake Hodges morning. Black Crowned Night Heron (snowy egret in backgrnd) Attachment: The setup (handheld) 600mm f4 w/ 1.4x on crop body (about 1350mm equiv). Attachment: Just rented the lens and extender; too damned $$$ to own! Played with my head tho. They kept whispering in the dark “Get yer ass out of bed! We are costing you $100 per day sitting in the corner or out taking pictures!” Needless to say, I was up at 4 and not back till after dark most days for a week! |
