after a few dates went to the gf's house to meet her family. her father offered an aperitif prior to dinner. cute little hand painted, antique decorative glasses. her mother collected antiques. but the oldish looking bottle was nearly unlabeled and mysterious with a hand made label saying only the contents were 'pruneau'.

he said i need to drink it all at once (shot). no problemo.

drank it down and felt like i swallowed a lit match, with fumes of fire coming up through my nose.

after regaining my composure, realizing he was looking to kill me, i complimented him on the drink and asked what is was.

"eau de vie" he said with a smile, realizing from my pale and sweaty complexion he had won the round.

turned out this stuff was moonshine made in someone's garage.

ended up marrying the girl and still have a little 'eau de vie' left up in my closet.

and oh, did i mention i have a daughter?

But still , good choice of beer. Too bad it's so expensive too ship beers to ya guy's , i would gladly ship some special ones from here.

Yeah some of the good stuff is pretty pricey. But lots of people think nothing to drop $20, 30, 50 on a bottle of wine so $10 for this isn't the end of the world. I'm with you on drinking heinekin, but I do like the glass...liberated from a restaurant some years ago! What is the appropriate glass for this beer?

The discussion about the proper glass for Evan's Belgian beverage made me think of this -- great book for beer connoisseurs.

Well Christ D, I wasn't sure before if you were IN Belgium, or here and FROM Belgium, but I guess you're currently at home. Right now I'm sipping a Belgian-style, but from Colorado, not Belgium. Nice color, fairly potent, but I think it's a little too sweetish for me (edit: but by the time I got to the end of the bottle I really liked it).

...and no matching glass. I do have a few "proper" beer glasses, but I like these for some reason. Will you be visting DT territory anytime soon?

Hey OldDogDan , i'm Belgian and live in Belgium. I visited the US (Cali,Arizona,Utah and a little piece of Nevada) last May and fell in love as you might say. The people , the trails , nature , food and very good beers , so yes i could live there !!!

Don't know when my next visit could be , planning a vacation for me alone and being married with kids is difficult.

The beer you are having looks tasty
