Had a Winter Yulesmith last night at Hamilton's. Very good imperial red ale.

Do you have a roaster or did ya go old school with the heat-gun/hair dryer?
A friend (Thanks Allen) brought me some green beans and told me how to roast, pretty good stuff.

I'm using a stove top popcorn popper.

mostly ethiopia dry process, some sulawesi wet process, and a tiny bit of indian robusta, fc+

sweet! :bang: where do you buy your beans?

i like the smell too, but it gets pretty smokey. last night i did it on the grill outside. the grill actually works out well as it has cast iron heat dispersal. just takes a long time to get up to temperature.

that there is my 3rd batch. it's probably c or c+. supposedly this variety doesn't darken as quickly as others. i should have gone a bit more fc.

still learning, but i highly recommend this to diy-ers. it's a lot less effort than brewing beer (used to do that too).

i also get my beans from sweet maria's.

i roast on the stovetop with the windows and doors open and the fan on. it doesn't get too smokey unless i do really dark roasts, but usually i try to land near the full city end of whatever roast sweet maria's recommends. i use 2 metal collanders in the backyard to cool the beans and shake out the chaff.

Tonight

Something old, something new. Both very tasty, but from different times and different styles of brewing. Fuller's is the original ESB (think pale ale with a nice malt taste) and the Lagunitas is a creative California ale in a Belgian style.

Man, I love beer.

For the beer nuts out there....

Remember Brew Dog, the brewer who came up with the world's strongest beer "The End of History", with each bottle wrapped in a dead animal pelt? (see page 3...viewtopic.php?f=11&t=2434&start=30)

http://www.brewdog.com/beer

I know of a place in town that recently acquired a case of each of Brew Dog's Tactical Nuclear Penguin (32%) and Sink the Bismarck (41% ABV). Bottles can be purchased but require 5-6 people to go in on one at around $20ea. Kreechan and I are in...anyone else? Send PMs, who knows how long these bottles will stick around.

I was a lukcy basartd last nite becuz my daughter wanted to spend an evening with her old dad. The local store had this Stone beer in stock, and my daughter got the Stella. She's home a little while from college in Flagstaff. We went to her fave sushi place, Hon in O'side, then grabbed the beers and watched some of her favorite TV. The Stone had an outrageous aroma, but a surprisingly smooth taste. Loved it!
