So I scratched the top tube on my trance a few weeks ago out Carrizo; now I need a new bike. :)

Seriously … Ive been thinking about getting a new bike for a while now.

I've been offered a great deal on a Carbon Nomad, all XT comp's on it. The only down side (for me) is it comes with a RS Lyric. I really want a Talas on the bike.

I'm also looking at a Norco Range 1.

So, I have a couple questions.

About how much could I get for the brand new Lyric from the Nomad.

Does anyone on the board either own or have owned a Norco, or no anyone that has.
More specfically does any know anyone who has a Range.

Thanks for your help.

Are you being serious!? The Lyric is the best fork out there!

That's good news. Any idea how much I might be able to get for it brand new (other than it being cut of course) I plan to take it off and replace it before I ride the bike so the Lyric will be unused.

Assuming of course I go witb the carbon nomad.

What model Lyric is it? I know someone that might be interested depending on what model it is.

Hmmm, I don't know. I'll look on the Santa Cruz site and see what it says. But I think it just say Lyric. I'll check though.

You should be able to get around 650 to 700 for it I think. Believe it or not, it's a better fork than the fox, I'd keep it on there.

Thanks for the input. I'll do some reading on it. If I go with the Nomad it'll take a couple days to get it so I'll have some time to read some reviews on the lyric.

Thanks again.

The new Talas forks are pretty bad. Everyone that I've heard with the new Talas hates them. Lyrics are pretty solid forks especially with the DH damper.

Ok, more questions.

I went in today to pay for the Nomad and started up a conversation about why I'm so sold on the carbon bike.

Truth is, I've ridden bothe the carbon and the AL frames with the builds.
I couldn't really tell any performance difference between the two; the only thing I noticed is the carbon felt more "damped". It just didn't pick up much if any vibration or "chatter" from the trail.

So really what it comes down to is I just "want" the carbon frame because it cool. The black carbon frame with the blue lettering just seems to be calling me.

So, here's the thing; I can get the carbon frame at "I can't pass that up" price.
But I can get the same kind of deal on a AL frame AND it's over 800.00 less dollars.

Now I really don't know what to do. Can anyone give me a good objective performance reason that sets the carbon frame apart from the AL frame?

Keep in mind as anyone who has ridden with me knows I don't exactly have "mad skills". I really want to get this bike deal done tomorrow so
I can be rising the new bike by Wednesday or so.

But now I'm even more conflicted …

If you can afford carbon, go for it.

I don't know the specifics on the Nomad, but typically the carbon version is both lighter and stiffer than the aluminum version of the same frame. How much lighter and how much stiffer and is it worth it? Only you can decide.

What he said. You sound like you really want the carbon and if the only con on your list is the $800 difference and money isn't really an issue, I'd go with the no regrets option.

And since you didn't ask but everyone is giving you an opinion anyway, think hard about keeping the lyrik over the talas. If you still want to sell the lyrik, steerer length is always an important part of selling a used fork so get it as long as you can.

I don't have enough experience to say one way or the other, but I do get skeptical about incremental differences in stiffness between the same alum vs. carbon frames. In surfing, some flex can be welcome.

That said, if you go alum, I'd certainly like to know about the carbon deal if you care to pass it on. :hello: I certainly don't have the skills to back it up, but my Do-Want!-O-Meter is pinging loudly about the carbon Nomad.
