My interweb research says that 10 speed cranks "should" work with 9 speed deraillers and freewheels. What's not clear to me is whether you have to use a 9 or 10 speed chain.

but that's the internet and no telling what BS some people are spewing. Call your local trusted mechanic - that's who I'd listen to.

It'll work with 9spd cassette and RD, but you DO have to use a 10spd chain otherwise it may ghost shift chainrings as you traverse your cassette.
