1) I don't have a truing stand. Can I make do with other things, like an old fork, or should I just go purchase a truing stand?

From the little experience I have, the stand makes a huge difference.

Darryl is correct. With the fork and zipties method, I got OK wheel, probably rideable, but not a precisely straight and round wheel. So I ordered a truing stand today. This means the laced wheel has to sit there while I wait for it.

My wheel is done. I did a couple of urban rides on it and skills practice. No trail yet.

Cool. I just picked up my 29er Flow rims last night, so now I just gotta get some spokes & nipples. But won't have time to build them until late Jan. I'm SO ready for tubeless on the RIP.

Darryl built his own wheels with a truer he borrowed & tued my wheels I just bought.

I see a tire truer in my future soon.

Thinking the Ultimate one, Darryl's was an older Schwinn one I believe.

I finally picked up DT Swiss spokes and nipples this weekend, so I've got 2 weeks to get my wheels built before Moab/Fruita.
