Some questions on an 09 Vanilla 140R. On my first ride it seemed the fork would tend to dive during breaking and before launching a jump. I increased the preload and after another ride its seems fine during breaking but still dives when i'm going for a jump.I haven't bottomed out though. I installed the green (fat boy :D ) spring as soon as I got the fork. I'm 218 and around 230 with gear. The only adjustments are preload and rebound. Any ideas on something else to try. Did I get the wrong fork or is it just my technique? The fork is on an 02 Bullit hence the user ID. Max recommended fork travel for the frame is 150MM. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks - Larry

Thats a tuff one. I mean you already installed the big spring, and set your preload..maybe another click of preload until desired performance?

For sure shouldn't dive before the jump. That's compression side of the things.

Do you push down on the handlebars before the jump, to get extra lift?

Cranking down on preload may give you some harshness on absorbing up the little stuff.

Call Fox see what they say, you may have something wrong with the fork, as I have road the Vanilla & it rode real well.

I had the '07 model of the Vanilla RLC and it was a great fork. Mine did however have a low speed compression adjustment. Brake dive is adjusted via LSC as is pedal bob. I weighed around 220 when I was riding my Vanilla RLC and noticed no brake dive.Suspension treats a jump just like a large bump so it tries to soak it up, rider input(unweighting the front) is the only way to effectively negate the fork compressing when coming to a jump, however you want the fork to compress because you are preloading the jump.

Larry,

On the RLC models, you can use the low speed compression to avoid brake diving, but yours is a R.

You have already installed the heaviest spring and maxed the preload, so now, the only thing you may do is to go with a less viscous oil.

Dicuss it with Fox and they will tell you what weight do you need. I have some at home that I don't use and don't remember its weight. If it is the right one, you can try or buy the right one from the motorcycle stores.

Or, if you want to fix it right, go with a 36 fork, either one is good, Talas, Van or just a 36. But " C " that comes with RLC is an advantage for all the fine tuning a fork.

I had that same problem with the 36 Van R, but I had the option to going to a heavier spring which fixed the brake dive and the dive before jumps. I can't believe that the green spring is the heaviest, because the 36's have yellow spring which a step up from the green.

Fox said due to sizing the green is the largest available for the 32. Maybe I'll have to find a 36 or a Pike if Fox doesn't have a solution for me. Maybe converting it to a RLC would help but, I don't know if they would do that.

I got lucky. Figured it would be an 08. First time I ever bought an aftermarket fork. As a matter of fact the fork almost cost more than my previous bike.
