I brought up for discussion a re-build for my 2004 Specialized Enduro here. The frame and fork are just over a year old, but the components are far past worn. Here is my bike now, just under 33 lbs.

To be replaced:
Specialized Crankset
Shimano Deore Disc Brakes
Shimano Deore Shifters
Easton Seatpost
WTB Speed V Saddle
Mavic 819/XT Hub Wheelset
Shimano LX Cassette
Cane Creek headset

I have gathered together most of my re-build kit through trade and some good deals.

Mavic Crossmax ST Wheelset
Shimano XT Shifters
Shimano XT Disc Brakes
Cane Creek S3 Headset
Sram 970 Cassette
Thompson Seatpost
Shimano SLX 22/36/Bash Crankset
WTB Devo Saddle

I will be disassembling my bike and cleaning it tomorrow night, the re-build will be Wednesday and Thursday. Friday will be the tune-up ride and if all goes well, the final product will be at Noble/BLT Saturday morning.

that bike is going to be awesome.

i have a 04 enduro that is built up as more of a xc rig, comes in just below 26lbs.

those enduro frames are a really great handling design, love mine. i don't think i'll ever get rid of it!

enjoy your noble run on your "new" bike.

I had an '04 Enduro Expert. I loved that bike. I only sold it because the HA is pretty steep at 70.5. It was always a sweet bike though. The build you've got going is SICK!! Congrats!

Do you plan on selling off the old components? Those Deore discs are awesome, work horse brakes. My son's bike needs brakes. If you're going to sell them, I call dibs.

Let me know. Thanks!! :)

Tonight was disassemble and clean night. Not too much fun, so on the way home I stopped to get this;

And also picked up the rest of my build kit.

I spent the night pulling everything off the frame, cleaning the parts I would re-use and lubing up the suspension links and shock mounts on the frame. Everything is clean and ready for the build tomorrow night.

Build night. I had the parts, frame and wheelset packed in the truck and left work early to head over to Bill's house for the bike "re-build". Bill was nice enough to offer up his tools, stand and knowledge. Thanks Bill!

The parts all layed out.

Bill offered up a cold beer before we started.

Headset, fork, stem and handlebar mounted.

Next the crankset and front derailleur. This is my first experience with the Hollowtech cranks, pretty cool.
Image

Wheels, rear derailleur and chain added. Getting the shifters tuned up.
Image

4 hours, a few beers and some good talk later....the bike is done.

Some better pics of the finished product.

She's clean and shiny now, but by tomorrow morning she'll be covered in the red dirt of La Costa after the break in ride. Final weight: 29lb 15oz, net drop of 3 lbs and should be a whole lot stiffer. Thanks for reading.
