I was worried about them the first day I put them up. I kept going to the garage and checking. If you make sure you pre-drill the right diameter, and hit the center of the wood dead on, you'll be fine. I even give them a tug before I hang anything on them. ( I said "wood" and "tug" in the same paragraph. :) )

If you look behind the surfboards in the shot that has a hanging shelf, you can see the one behind the beam. The garage door just barely misses it.

What about oil leak from your fork because the bike is upside down? I always worry about that so my bike just sits in the garage and now the fork is leaking like crazy even I never hang it from the ceiling :x

after taking the forks apart, i've concluded that just isn't possible. if oil leaks, it's because something isn't tight enough or the seals are bad.

You may wan't to put a bit more weight on what Baja has to say :D

My brand new rock shox was sweating through the preload adjustment screws on the crown caps. although it is open oil bath, which I'm sure played a part...

Fighting gravity scares me. I made mine out of a 2x6, a 2x4 and some drywall screws. Not exactly fine carpentry, but it works OK.

The preload on one is just a piece of plastic that sits on top of the coil in the stanchion. The coil sits on a plunger that goes through a small opening surrounded by bushings at the bottom of the stanchion. There's no oil in there -- just grease. The lowers have the oil bath in them.

The U-Turn works similarly.

The manual on the preloaded one says to cycle the lockout and work the fork a bit if it's been upside down because the oil will gravitate into the lockout (there's oil in the stanchion on that side for the rebound).

I like what ya got going on here, I wanted to do something similar, but my garage is a complete mess and I don't have the room. Although, if I sold the air-hocky table I would have more room. Hmmm...
We've hung our bikes from the truss in the garage for about seven years now and it seems to be working out.

Yeah, I had that problem for awhile too. Solution: don't park cars in the garage, and throw away everything that isn't Bike related or been used in the last 365 days. I gave myself exactly one box to put "keepsake" type stuff. It's liberating. You really don't need that non-bike stuff anyways.

We have been hanging our bikes like this in the garage for almost 8 years. When you put your hooks into the studs, like dood says, just predrill the correct size and make sure to go in center stud. For thos of you with a drywall ceiling, the same principle applies, you just have to be more judiscous of of your stud finding. Remember, an electronic stud finder also reads electrical wires and plumbing as studs, so you will be best off doing the tap-a-wall method of stud-finding.

Sometimes theres 4 or 5 bikes hangin' here

And of course this is part of my tool area which as you can tell is very messy and unorganized, but I know where everything is...

Here's a few of my garage from last fall. Wall is now organized. Pegboard needs to be painted white.
