I think the narrower templates look fine on a widescreen. DT has always looked uncluttered because of that, which is something I like.

Here are some templates that caught my eye:

CA vintage brown, Softwood, slagg - low key and I like the brown theme (fits MTB well)
Bl@ck or Proformell - if you want a similar look to what we have now
ProDark or Black Pearl - something more distinctive but not too obnoxious

My real votes are for:

xandpurple
Absolution
Afterburner
Apple
Avalon Cyan
eTech
Getaway
Grunge
KS_Serious
Revolution
slagg
SoftWood
Titan

There was too many to choose from.

Question (probably for Ld00d):

How much can we (er... you?) customize a given template? For instance, I really like the pro_ubuntu_lucid theme because of the colors and general layout -- except that it uses the orange Ubuntu logo on the left side of every forum/topic heading. While there's nothing wrong with the logo, it suggests that the site is about Ubuntu* in some way. If we could replace that logo/icon with some cool mtb-based icon (like a cog, say) then I'd like it that much more.

*for the non-geeks: Ubuntu is a distribution of the GNU/Linux operating system

Just curious, how many of you are using widescreen monitors? The only reason I ask, is because so far, I think all your choices (except for aktif) are the narrower templates.

I'm on wide screen…

I like Proglass/Prosilver Special Edition and Frozen Phoenix. They have a look that is semi-consistent with the current template.

Center column width is going to be an issue with any fixed width theme. Most folks are rockin' the wide screen monitor nowadays. The problem is, a lot of the dynamic width templates are ugly. Of the dynamic width templates, I think Serenity DarkBlue and Hestia have the most potential.

there's quite a bit of customization possible, but it's easier if the theme is really close to start with. for example, this theme is blue moon with subsilver buttons and custom banner and ranks.

Yes it looks nice -- but the curious thing is, I don't see the color Teal anywhere in it!

Teal looks like this:
XOXOXOXOXOX

or possibly this (aka Teal Blue):
XOXOXOXOXOX
