Post subject:  Yo, fellow DT'ers,

How weather/intense sun question for my DT brethren. A while back I saw several pics of some guys riding in the sun light with a shade attachment on their mtb helmets that kinda looked like a cowboy hat- pretty much a 360 attachment with the vented helmet in the middle. I need one of those like it's nobody's 'badness, but of course I hope to make it YOUR 'bidness if you know where I can buy one. I got a handful of hairline skin cancers starting up right in that area. So does the wife, and she's also a rider.
No doubt the sun is a major factor in their growth.
So, can anybody out there help a bro out?
TIA Ray.

Another option is to wear a bandana under your helmet. I do this a lot on longer rides now especially when its hot out. The sides hang down and can be pulled forward a bit to cover both sides of the face and it offers full neck coverage. As a bonus you can soak it in streams you come across which helps cool you down.

I have been using the Da Brim for the last 4 years for the same reason -too many parts cut off as a result of the sun in my youth. I am in an abusive relationship with the sun and I have live in sun hats outside, be it on a bike or otherwise

While they universally fit most helmets, the visor itself comes in a few sizes. I prefer the Sporty as it is just a little smaller and not as floppy. Besides, it says I can go up to 35 mph with it. I just like it for the extra 2 feet of glide I get as Skypark when I turn my head just so once I get the wheels off the ground....

I am past the stupid and the under-the-breath comments. I imagine your ego is able to stand up to such stupidity as well. It is definitely worth the investment. I been told I look somewhere between a cowboy, firefighter, ranger, and, of course, dork. All I know is I have a lot less burns and have shade on my upper body most of the day.

Late to the party as always...

I have Da Brim too (sporty smaller version). Works great. Has never fallen off, and I've never gone airborne ala Flying Nun either.

Embrace the Helmbrero!

I'm going with "dork" even though I know it's going to mean there's a walk-off, front yard tussle, Chinese downhill, or a fist in the throat to permanently disrupt my breathing ability in my future.

Thanks for all the support. Now, I just gotta figure out how to fit the thing to my Giro Xen. Does the helmet visor need removing? Yes, I really am that stupid these days.....
