Hello,

Join me the Carlsbad City Council meeting Tues. Dec. 9th at 6:00pm. Its time for City leadership to hear from you. We will be asking the Council for their direct support and approval. 44% of respondents to their most recent survey requested a bike park but they continue to ignore us.

Please do not put this off. Unless the City approves a bike park, this is the last time I'll be asking for your help. Spread the word, bring your friends and family. Thanks!

Following is the message I just emailed the mayor's office and the park's department (matt.hall@carlsbadca.gov, chris.hazeltine@carlsbadca.gov and parks@carlsbadca.gov). Add your voices too.

Hello Matt and Chris,

I'm writing to express the will of the cycling community for a bike park within the master Park Plan currently being considered. Are you aware that 44% of respondents to the city's own survey expressed a desire for a bike park? So far, the requests of the largest group of respondents is seemingly being ignored by your respective offices. Is this true? Does the Mayor's office and the Parks Department support a bike park? If not, why not? If yes, what specific actions are being taken to make it happen? I look forward to your responses, as well as your positive support and specific actions to make this a reality.

I will attend the City Council meeting on 12/09 to add my voice to the chorus of support for a bike park in Carlsbad.

I have done as much as I can by myself.

I was at the P&R Commission meeting last night talking about the progress and asked them again for their support. I would love to recruit local trail builders to work on our park.

We need people to go to the meeting on Tuesday and ask for a park. We then need people to follow up with the Mayor and P&R Director.

We have a very pro business Mayor. If anyone runs owns or works for a local business who would support and or donate to the project please tell the mayor that!!!

See you on the 9th.

Will he be at the meeting, standing up and speaking, making it known that he as a local business owner wants action. Or is he showing his support by spreading the word?
Im not assuming either way, but my experience with the local business owners showing their support usually means just that, spreading the word, not actually being at the meeting and standing up, going on the record as a local business owner who supports what the majority if the community is requesting.

Thats one of the things that needs to be done, is for any local business owner to actually "Get Up, Stand Up". Otherwise its all just lip-service.

Dont get me wrong, I am not saying thats what he is or isnt doing and Im not judging that particular business, Im just saying, thats usually the case. In this instance I hope not.
Theres quite a bit of cycling related business' in Carlsbad that bring tons of revenue...how many of them are standing up and voicing their concern?

Just something to chew on I guess.

Some points:
I've heard them say there is not enough support for a bike park. They must be talking about internal support because 44% of the last survey respondents requested a bike park. 15% asked for pickle ball. Bikes have has as much if not more support as pickleball multiple surveys but pickleball is getting done.

I've heard them talk about bikes being a niche sport. Everyone has ridden bikes. More people ride bikes then skate board and want a plot in a community garden combined. Carlsbad has 2 skate parks and 3 community gardens. The Truckee park sees 100s of users a day in the summer.

The parks plan that is being presented tomorrow will not be changed. We are not asking for that. We will be asking for a council member to make a motion to approve a bike parks at Zone 5 Park or motion to hold a public workshop. A public workshop is the very least they can do.

Locations where some sort of bike area could work: Hosp Grove, future Robertson Ranch and Veterans Parks, Zone 5 Park, Stagecoach

Park.I've met with 3 Council members, the City Manager and P&R Commissioners. All of them say they like the idea and support it. I will ask them to do so publically.

We are in the running for a grant from the Carlsbad Community Foundation. I'm sure other Carlsbad companies like SPY maybe ViaSat will support the project once we can step forward.

Thank you for keeping the irons in the fire. It sucks but you are a huge driving force behind this. Don't let up.

For those who cannot attend tomorrow night, is there more we can do beyond the emails?

Thank you to all who came out last night. Too bad it was long and drawn out. I know more than a few left before we got to our item. I hope we made enough of an impression to get the mayor to take action soon.

Brent from RIDE was there and Andrew from Norco Bikes. Some industry folks do make the effort. There may have been others that I did not see or recognize.
