As you guys prolly saw in the calandar, JJ The Whale posted up a ride for La Costa and invited me...yippie!!! I love that place.
I met him there, he made it even after my defunct directions...I'm lame...I was pontificating on one of the climbs today if my brain was losing its wrinkles and getting smoother...those of you that know what this means you'll understand, all ya'll others should look it up in Wiki or somet'ing, its an interesting concept, but not for todays Treaders Report.
Unfortunatly my better half and resident photog (Boo) was at work and we only have two pics of our ride, one of them is of my ugly mug and then I took a pic of how damn dirty my legs get from the silty trails here, those glorious gritty passages across rock, dirt and chicken wire....oh yeah, traction satisfaction!!!
JJ The Whale is getting his chops up pretty quick, this was his first ride at La Costa, and he did an astounding job climbing and descending.
We did the usual 2 laps, up Switchback Trail, down The Horned Lizard or Vista Del Mar whatever its called. After dropping down below the power tower SDG&E has here, we turned it around and did this route in reverse. JJ The Whale ascended this like a cracky clambering for some dropped rock...he was on a mission to conquer the climbs of La Costa, and in my opinion he did. Great job JJ The Whale.
We rested for a mere minute or so and soon headed down the Switchback Trail...oh sweetness, those banked turns, leaning way in, not scrubbing speed, going fast, flying and floating over rocks is just what I needed this beautiful day.
We ended up riding a short 7.89 miles, with 1243 ft of elevation gain. I know it sounds like a short ride, but it is pleasure and pain packed in this miniscule moment in time and space. I rode with a guy awhile back who described this place as "Low Mileage but High Smileage". He hit it right on the head with this statement.
JJ The Whale, thanks for coming up and riding with me today at one of my favorite trails, you did awesome, especially for riding it for the first time and on a hardtail.

We usually park at the turn on Courte Romero, and ride up the road past the homes to the trailhead. FatWhat and I are riding there tomorrow morning if you would like to join us.
