If is near the creek, I would assume it could be possibly a cross marker for the tragic incident that occurred on one rainy night years ago in the early 1990's. I recall from the news story back then, a car full of migrant women try to cross sunny creek that happen to be running swiftly and too deep to pass in an older sedan. The water fill the car quickly and none of them were able to escape. By the time CFD were able to extricate them out, it was too late, all drown.

I remember that, and it makes sense, but it is not near the creek. I used google earth once to figure out when that house burned down, but I don’t remember the date. It was much more recent than I expected — so not impossible they’re related.

[edit: three women drowned, two rescued, eighteen years ago tomorrow, at 9PM.]

That might have been a second incident, history tends to repeat.

^^^ Nice. Looks like a dry and dusty winter so far there too.
Late yesterday at Calavera:

I pulled off a single track for a kid flying down it and he fishtailed about thirty feet before high siding. Glad he and the bike both missed me. He was okay, just dusty and embarrassed.

Some scrawny guy who looks older than dirt, climbing Caballo at Daley yesterday, which would have really sucked if he wasn’t cheating. Which instead made it really fun.

From the Daley Ranch website:

“The Caballo Trail from the staging area to the Sage Trail is in poor condition. Not recommended for equestrians or bicycles at this time.”
