So since we’re “legal” again, I went back out to Calavera today. I rode the legal stuff as well as the South side but of course didn’t venture into the Preserve since that’s off limits to bikes. I know many will say it’s trashed but I have to say, I had a blast. The ruts, exposed rocks & roots and overgrown vegetation turns the riding into a challenge. All in all, riding that stuff will just make you a better rider. Get out there and have some fun.

Followed in your tracks starting at Skyhaven today.

Agree there are lots of new “features” out there.

One of the more interesting was watching (from the “legal” hilltop in the S40) 2 Carlsbad PD on motorcycles hunt for 3 mt bikers in the closed area. The PD seemed to have difficulty finding their way and negotiating some of the trickier sections. I predict that will change fast and they will get more successful as they get more familiar with the trails and hone tactics.

So, as stated before: Be careful out there!

The dirt bikes are out there on a state grant for CHER and will be around at least another month. Remember, they are doing a job and this is what they have been instructed to do. No different than if you were a painter and told to paint a house green, pink and purple. You don't have to agree with the color choices but you paint it those colors anyway. They'll be gone soon enough and the envelope can be pushed again.

Spotter....I would have liked to watch them search for the riders myself. I know I wouldn't want to ride a big KTM 500 down the rutted Poison Oak Alley. There's a monster hole on the left side that would swallow that dirt bike. We were out at Mel Brooks one day and were watching the Sheriff's helicopter try to pin down some trials dirt bike riders. The trials guys kept stopping where we did and tried to blend in. I have no idea how they never got caught.

The dirt bikes are probably keeping trails open that would grow over or be rutted out.

Maybe counter productive X 2?
