Sweet! That place is great open space now, but could really use sustainable trails in place of old fire roads that rut out every rainy season, as we all know.

Volunteers make the trail $$ go farther. How can we make sure they know they have local muscle willing to help out?

Either join SDMBA or at the very least follow them on FB or IG. They post up when there's going to be a work day. They just had one this past weekend and were working on a monster rut based on posted photos.

It's not about volunteering, trail work or etc. It's 100% about trail etiquette and being polite to other users on trails at Daley and everywhere really.

IMBA is only creating a "trail plan" it will still need approval from other groups and then be adopted by the city. MTB riders actions 100% will be in the spotlight if we want new and improved trails and to be the lead group on this project.

Ride with trail bells, be polite, respect the rules of trails and give way to other users. Ride in control. Don't be a kook.

All the above. This is a great opportunity for San Diego, but understand, this is nothing more than "free" time from IMBA Trail Solutions to develop a plan. They already did this once for Orozco Ridge. What they provided was actually a good plan. It's not IMBA's job to get it accepted, and built, that is up to the partner parties. A requirement of the Grant is the local "property" also provide matching funding. So ultimately this plan will cost $15k.

It will then be back to local teams to get It accepted and built.

The process to get a master plan is to take a comprehensive look at the existing "trails" and create a plan for the future. This will allow for a quicker build than if it is approached in a "one by one" fashion. Just keep in mind "fast" does not mean next year. Typical plan development to implementation can take years. We did the same at Black Mountain in 2010 providing us a master plan for the trails that have been added. We started building nearly 5 years later in late 2014. Once you have the plan, implementation is the easy part. The tedious job is always the paperwork.

To answer the question about funding, the matching funds are being provided by multiple agencies including the City of Escondido, The Escondido Creek Conservancy, Friends of Daley Ranch, and the Valley Center Trails Association. Together they represent a majority of stake holders and will provide input (as well as the public) to ensure the best plan is put forward. The ranger staff at Daley Ranch is on-board with the plan and process.

Could something go wrong as it did in Orosco? Sure, but this time it is a multi-faceted coalition of users so there will be a much wider approval, limiting the potential of push back. Learn from the past and improve of the process. Besides, the plan for Orosco is still a valid and well developed trails plan. It is a matter of getting the governing agency (changed in the middle of the plan) to see it as such. We are continuing to work on that too.

There is such opportunity here. Scott, the trail liaison at Daley will have his hands full once this gets to the build stage. Keep the candle lit, it is going to be a process.

Well, based on BB's post, I guess I'll never see/ride it. I'll be out of CA by that time. :)

Some environmental groups are already making noise about vegetation destruction at Daley by a mountain bike group doing trail work this winter. So it's not exactly starting off on the right foot there.

These crazies freak out about broken twigs.
