So, I pretty much have everything for the new bike so I figured I'd post up a build thread. I will be adding to it as the few things I'm waiting on show up. Brakes, tires and handlebar are en route. Drivetrain minus cranks is waiting to be installed. S-Works cranks are backordered until late April/early May, I'm considering getting some XX's to use in the mean time. Still trying to find a specific stem (Syntace F109), not having any luck so far. May run something else. Anyway, here's some carbon pron.

Yes, the rims are carbon.

Carbon. It's what stuff's made of.

XX Cassette-Seriously one of the most beautiful bike parts I've ever seen. Hard to believe it's mass produced.

Got a present from the SRAM fairy the other day.

Finished building it up this evening.

I've only ridden it enough to bed the brakes in, and verify the shifting was good to go. I rode maybe a couple hundred yards of trail and cruised around my neighborhood. But, I can say this bike is amazing. Can't wait to get it out on the trails tomorrow. Still need to trim the brake lines, but other than that it's good to go.

What is the point of the lacing pattern on the front wheel? Strength?

I asked about it myself. Didn't really get a solid answer in person from anyone so far, but I found this online.
• DoubleDrive front spoking pattern for increased braking stiffness and balanced spoke tension, allows for radial spokes on the non-disc side for more responsive steering.
Who knows? I did make sure that they are plenty strong though. So far all the reports are good for stiffness. We'll see about durability.

Radial lacing saves weight due to shorter spoke lengths. It sacrifices strength though, so it looks like they did 2-cross on the disc side to compensate for the amount of torsion braking creates.

I look forward to hearing how those rims work for you Darryl!

One of the funnest parts of building up a bike piece by piece is having some VERY cool parts in the living room for days, often weeks, or even months? I am surprised my wife tolerated it so well :D The hand picking (and searching for the best deals) of each part, and finally waiting for the day it comes together......all priceless. Thanks for sharing the adventure.

terrific build 8)

i've a 90mm F119 like new in packaging as a spare - the mrs was happier with a 75mm F109 instead on her stumpy

put an order in at Starbikes for another 75mm F109 on Sunday for our Epic - seems to be just about the only place to find them now

Man, I was afraid to even open this thread but then couldn't resist. Some fancy shmancy wheels there. I can't wait to see it all built up.

I didn't mean to but I went ahead and ordered the XX cranks. I know me. And I can't wait until May to ride this thing!

So whats your guess on final weight? That thing is tits

Final weight should be around 19.25lbs plus or minus a quarter pound depending on what tires I am running. I'll be running Schwalbe Racing Ralph 2.25's for everything except Leadville, I'll be using Renegade 1.95's there. Either way it's freaking ridiculous. My road bike weigh's over 22lbs.

That bike is going to be amazing.

For a look at weight weenie purpose of mind, check out this bike I was just looking at on Flickr:

14.2 lbs. Maybe not as durable as the build you have going, but you have to admire his dedication!
