Has anyone been?

I stopped there for lunch on my way down to Torrey Pines. I should've known something was up when I saw it was next to a gas station. I ordered the Bento Box, yeah that didn't turn out so well. It's more of a Chinese fast food place IMO.

Maybe I'm spoiled, having grown up eating homemade sushi & rolls, but Mikko just wasn't that good for me.

IMHO of course.

Poway Sushi Lounge is the best! http://snipurl.com/4s5ng

Quote:
Poway Sushi Lounge was an idea conceived by two friends working together for another restaurant, Sushi on the Rock in La Jolla and Carlsbad. Katie Rooney was the current Catering Director, having started the department after opening the Carlsbad location and being the Manager of Operations for both locations.

Frank Interlandi assisted in the opening of Carlsbad and was the Head Chef at that location. He worked for the company for seven years, starting in La Jolla, and was the main catering chef.

The two friends re-connected with a past co-worker, sushi chef Eric Wong and brought their fresh, creative cuisine to Poway. After purchasing Sushi Poway, the three partners began three months of remodeling and changes and emerged with a new menu, fresh new décor, and a whole new feel.

Try Hana for sushi if you're in the area again. A little pricey to sit at the bar, but much better than Mikko. It's about a mile east of I-5 and just on the north side of SR 78.

i made my own bento box. I'm fortunate to work near Mitsuwa (Japanese supermarket/food court) they have this extensive aisle of precooked meats and fish and freshly made sushi/sashimi and handrolls. I go in buy myself a bowl of cooked rice, some 6 piece chicken kararge (skinless chicken chunks pan fried), and a pack of tuna dn cucumber roll. eating at my desk and surfing the web YUMMMY

Mikko is bad, bad, bad. I live in Carlsbad. When we first moved there, my sushi-lovin ghost wife and me went there and ran out and never came back. The "50% off sushi" sign has been there for EIGHT years. Yee gods.

Much better in that area is Sushi Taisho, above the Coyote bar and Grill.

For top level, try Samurai just west of 5 on Lomas santa Fe.

yeah, good, and expensive. they do the calamari in steaks though, so i definitely don't recommend the calamari.
