Not to be doom and gloom, but it's around 8600. The only thing keeping me from crying is that i'll be riding the Tunnels later.

I don't even check my accounts anymore... I used to but I like my sanity too much to even think about it.

I think we're heading down to the 2003 low of 7700 (that's only 12% more). People dont realise that those bailout dollars need time to work into the system.

Euroupe is effed... Iceland basically imploded today. The good news, the dollar is rallying against the pound and euro....

More good news... it would appear that the commodity's bubble burst. In other words, oil, steel, aluminum, rubber, corn, etc are all dropping like rocks. Hopefully we'll see some real cheap gas soon, and cheaper frames in '10

Definetly not a depression. Recession, yes. As for the market, the only way to "lose" money right now is if you own a stock that goes out of business (like Lehman) or if you sell out to cash. Stay invested, dollar cost average an S&P500 index fund if you have the balls.

The two best 3 year periods to invest in the stock market since 1930 was the bottom of the GD, and the day after the 1987 crash.

Sorry, I tell people this shit all day

Thanks mang, that helps to put things in perspective.

Which brings me to a question that I've had for quite some time: Isn't "Evil Chocula" redundant? I mean, is there such a thing as a non-evil Chocula?

It's a real gut check, but I second this advice - dollar cost averaging works as long as you are not planning to retire in the next 10 or so years. There is still considerable downside risk over the next several months but nothing compared to the upside potential over the next several years. Don't panic and whatever you do, don't take your money out now!

Sorry, back to biking now...

I don't get why people pull everything out. Don't they realize they're the cause?

I expect a retest though.. expect a couple more drops before the rally. The good news, I think we've set a bottom. I think.

very nice. now if we can identify these problems before they become disastrous.

anyone who's interested check out this american life's episode called Another Frightening Show About the Economy

thanks to tal, i've learned more than i wanted to know about naked short selling and default credit swaps. for all of you "npr is biased liberal media" naysayers, they blame the clinton admin for letting the default credit swap thing go through unregulated.

Good stuff d00d. It's all about "stock injection".

I don't have time to listen to this right now... but, is it the NPR special where they have people involved explain what happened? Mortgage brokers, etc? If so, its very good.
